Lower Ratings Don’t Always Mean Reduced Services

December 16th, 2008

Recently John Knox Village, a Continuing Care Residential Community located in Lee’s Summit, MO recently reported operating losses amounting to $4.8million in fiscal year 2007.  These losses resulted in a BBB rating from a BBB+ rating by FitchRatings, an independent global rating agency.

This reduced rating does not reflect services provided by John Knox Village, in fact the opposite is true.  The service and staff at John Knox Village is exemplary.  Even with the reported losses, John Knox Village recently reopened two buildings housing independent living units.

The report offers something else to consider when selecting a CCRC for either yourself or a loved one.  Reporting losses does not necessarialy mean a reduction in services, but it is definitely something you should look into.
